I’m on a brave kick lately.
And by lately, I mean, the last couple of years. You might say it’s been a bit of an experiment in— “Let’s just see what happens…”
I’ve been doing this with my new music venture—reimagining what a career in music might look like for a middle-aged guy like me, adopting the new Marcus Royce moniker, and releasing music aiming for the UK/European pop market—with songs like “What I Want,” “Just Watch Me,” “Something Good,” and now, “Brave”
Did you know you can support me in a super easy way by pre-saving my new tune “Brave” (here’s the link!)? It releases this Friday on all the music platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon (on Friday the pre-release link changes to link to each of these music services!).
I’m also doing this in my personal life—exploring what it means to live without fear and without anything to prove to anyone.
Crazy? or Brave? Sometimes the two are indistinguishable even to me!
I keep choosing Brave, and I can’t recommend it enough. Life is too short to just let life pass you by. You and I have been given an incredible opportunity to engage with an incredible world filled with gorgeous people. We can spend our days spreading around all the love and joy possible, believing that is what is going to make this life better for everyone—but with me at the top of the list.
Been holding back for far too long Afraid of what might be if you gave in Would you lose it all But now you're sick of your old ways You're finally ready for a new life It's a brand new day It's time to brave
I don’t think I’m necessarily new to bravery.
Being an independent musician/creative entrepreneur for nearly two decades will push you to your limits of courage, and challenge you to come face to face with all your fears.
But even through all of those challenges, one of the most brave things I’ve done has been to put myself on the top of my to do list. To try to find out what things make me happy. To discover what things help me sing and dance along to the music of my heart.
I had always thought that thinking about myself and my personal joy was TOO SELFISH, TOO WORLDLY, NOT CHRISTIAN… uggh. While I completely agree that living life seeking to serve and help other people is the best way to live, personally, I can’t do that very well if I’m not taking care of myself. I neglected myself emotionally and physically, and then resented when other people weren’t able to meet my needs.
If I take care of myself first, I’m free to love other people without expectations of what I should be getting from them. If I take care of myself first, I can be bold and free with all my talents and creativity, without expectations of what I should be getting in return.
Being brave frees me up to be more authentically me—more excellent, more creative, more loving, more selfless. Wanna join me?
This life's too short to sit and wait Your beating heart says that you're ready now And there's joy in store It's time to brave Walk through the fire To hold your head high Keep your eyes on the prize You're not going down You're going through Its time to be brave
My new song “Brave” releases this Friday on all music services like Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon. Check out TONS of bonus videos and images on my social media channels — FACEBOOK & INSTAGRAM - I’m deeply grateful for however you’re able to support what I’m doing: liking, sharing, downloading, streaming, shouting out your front door to the neighbors, or blasting the song from your car speakers (windows down, of course!). Let’s have some fun!
In case you haven't noticed, I'M IN! :) You mentioned being a middle-aged guy, but I think you have a young sounding voice (that's a compliment). Looking forward to Friday and hoping good things for you...
