I’m so grateful for this awesome life that I get to live. I’m overwhelmed by how incredible this planet is that we get to live on. I’m absolutely in love with how we get to interact with so many beautiful humans—how we can experience compassion and understanding, even with a briefly held glance.
Off the top of my head, here are a few more things about life that are really, really great: puppies, kittens, music, dancing, food, travel, a great photograph, family, friends, laughter, crying, great storytelling, nature, naps, my recliner.
Yes, life is also more challenging and more painful than I was ever told it was going to be, and I’m not completely happy about that. But…
I believe everything we go through is an opportunity to learn something—something I believe boils down to one main thing: we are here to learn how to love better.
My nearly six decades of living have been one great journey of learning how to love better…learning how to love myself, love my family, my friends, and even people I don’t know.
This journey into love is a continual letting go of my ego, my agenda, my ideas about how other people should be living, or should be treating me. A letting go of all that I think life should be giving me, and swimming in gratitude for all that already surrounds me.
It’s an opportunity to experience freedom—a freedom that allows you to lay your head on your pillow at night and not have to fret about what anybody else is doing or thinking. It’s also a deeper freedom when you know that you have nothing to hide from anyone, and that there is nothing or no one that you need to be afraid of.
It’s a journey into open-handed living—where you are free to share all you have, and free to receive whatever gifts others are offering, even if just a smile.
This makes life really, really great.
Sending you love today: M
