How Do You Get Through?

Have you ever heard this song of mine, “You’ll Get Through This?” It’s been one that always gets the most beautiful reactions when I’ve performed it. I posted the video above so you can hear it.

Sometimes I hear about something super difficult that someone is going through and I can’t help but wonder, “How are they getting through that?”

Let me ask you: When times get tough…how do you get through?

I’ve been waiting to get through some stuff lately. It hasn’t been fun at all. I know sadness, and this has been a deeper kind of ache…the kind where you can start to wonder if there’s actually something wrong with you. You know that feeling? Then you find out that most people are battling through extremely challenging circumstances themselves. And you can’t always tell on the surface. Sometimes we walk around like everything is fine. Even when it’s not.

I love the quote attributed to, well…many different people, that says, “Be kind. For everyone you meet is fighting a great battle.”

This has hit home to me recently as I’ve shared some of my hard stuff with people who then, because of my vulnerability, feel safe to open up to me about their hard stuff. I’m quite honored when that happens, but I’m also struck with the truth of the above quote in a way that hurts my heart, for an empath like myself.

Even still, I find beauty in discovering shared suffering. We can then look to each other and say, “we got this!” And somehow in that, hope can start to bloom.

In addition to compassionate conversations, music is one HUGE way that I get through. Songs of hope and joy and FUN lift my soul.

Do you use music to help you get through?

This is one of the main reasons that I make music. Because music has helped me get through so many difficult days, I’d be so honored to help another person get through some of theirs. I hope I can continue to create music that lifts your soul. That keeps your feet moving when you don’t think you can take another step. That makes your heart beat, when it feels like it has almost beat its last.
